Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, announced a vaccine funding shortfall. This issue arises as international support decreases.
Funding cuts to USAID by former U.S. President Donald Trump have impacted Ghana's healthcare. These cuts have reduced the supply of essential drugs and financial aid.
Mr. Mintah Akandoh stated that the government needs about $25 million this year. This amount is necessary to procure all required vaccines for the country.
He shared this information during a meeting with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana on April 14.
The minister emphasized that partners who help procure vaccines are fading away. He noted, “This year alone, we need not less than $25 million to import vaccines.”
Mr. Akandoh expressed concern over the lack of alternatives due to decreasing aid.
