The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, announced a funding need. The government requires about $25 million for vaccines this year.
Mr. Akandoh expressed concern over reduced donor support in Ghana's health sector. He described this trend as troubling for the country.
This situation follows funding cuts to USAID by former U.S. President Donald Trump. These cuts have impacted essential drug supplies and financial support in Ghana's healthcare system.
During a meeting with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana on April 14, Mr. Akandoh highlighted the issue. He stated that the government has no alternative due to decreasing aid.
He noted that partners who help procure vaccines are fading away. This year, at least $25 million is needed to import vaccines into Ghana.
