Kwame Asare Obeng, known as A Plus, is the MP for Gomoa Central. He has called for a Ministry of Common Sense in Ghana.
He believes many issues need urgent correction, especially regarding state resources. A Plus made this statement during an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem. He was reacting to the missing Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) containers at Tema Port.
The MP questioned why ECG's goods were withheld or auctioned off. He noted that ECG is a state-owned company and should not face such issues. “It seems we need to create a Ministry of Common Sense,” he said. “A lot of things do not add up.”
He criticized the practice of selling state items due to unpaid import duties. “I don’t know if our brains are pay-per-use,” he added.
The missing ECG containers have raised nationwide concern. Reports indicate over 1,300 shipping containers meant for ECG have disappeared at the port. The scandal came to light after Energy Minister John Jinapor formed a committee to investigate.
Security agencies were alerted and began their investigations. They discovered some ECG cables in factories and warehouses in Shai Osudoku and Kpone.
Some missing containers have been found, leading to several arrests. Both Ghanaian and Chinese nationals are among those detained in connection with this incident.
