Ghana needs a national identity to progress – Dr. Tony Aidoo

Dr. Tony Aidoo appeared on the Urban Blend show. He discussed Ghana's democracy and its political challenges.

Aidoo highlighted several key issues. These included corruption, a weak national identity, and poor leadership prioritizing personal interests over public welfare.

He believes that loyalty to local chiefs undermines national unity. “We would rather give our loyalty to the chief than to the national government,” he said in an interview on 3FM, as reported by MyNewsGh.

This lack of national loyalty has weakened leadership. Both citizens and politicians often prioritize their own interests instead of the country's needs.

The discussion also covered dual citizenship and its impact on development. Aidoo supports dual citizenship if individuals maintain integrity. He believes they can contribute valuable skills to Ghana’s growth.

However, he noted a troubling trend among leaders trained abroad. Many return to Ghana but engage in illegal activities. “When they come to Ghana, they are lawbreaking citizens,” he stated. He sees this as both a leadership issue and a societal problem.

Aidoo strongly criticized Ghana's healthcare system during the interview. “We need to build better healthcare systems in Ghana,” he stressed.

He urged leaders to improve local healthcare instead of seeking treatment abroad. If they can afford care overseas, what about ordinary citizens who empowered them?

His frustration extends to poorly equipped hospitals and stalled government healthcare projects.
