Ghana paired with France, Netherlands for Tokyo World Championships ticket

Ghana’s men’s 4x100m relay team has one last chance to qualify for the Tokyo 2025 World Athletics Championships. They will compete on Day 2 of the World Athletics Relays in Guangzhou.

On the first day, Ghana's team ran a season-best time of 38.49 seconds. The team included Barnabas Aggerh, Sean Safo-Antwi, Joseph Paul Amoah, and Ibrahim Fuseini. However, they finished third behind Great Britain & Northern Ireland and Poland. This result did not secure an automatic qualification spot from their heat.

Now, Ghana must improve their time in the second race. They will face tough competition from France, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Korea, and Chinese Taipei in Heat 1. The race is scheduled to start at 12:32 PM Ghana Time.

France and the Netherlands are strong contenders. Both have national records under 38 seconds—37.79 and 37.91 seconds respectively. Switzerland and Korea have seasonal bests close to Ghana’s time, while Chinese Taipei is slightly behind.

Ghana's national record of 38.07 seconds is within reach. If they perform better than on Day 1, they could qualify by time.

Other teams hoping to qualify include Jamaica, Brazil, Australia, China, and Belgium in different heats. Jamaica and Brazil have impressive records of 36.84 and 37.72 seconds respectively.

With limited slots available for Tokyo, Ghana's performance on Day 2 is crucial for their chances at the World Championships later this year.
