Ghana’s Naomi Oyoe Ohene Oti named finalist in Global Nursing Award, needs public votes to win

Naomi Oyoe Ohene Oti is an oncology nurse specialist. She is the Head of Nursing at the National Radiotherapy Oncology and Nuclear Medicine Centre. This center is part of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

Naomi has been named one of the top 10 finalists for the Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award. She was chosen from over 100,000 entries worldwide. Only two Africans made it to the final shortlist.

She is asking for public support to win this award for Ghana and Africa.

Naomi graduated from Achimota School in 1993. She also attended the University of Ghana and KNUST. Additionally, she studied at the Ghana College of Nurses and Midwives.

For 23 years, Naomi has transformed cancer care and nursing education in Africa. As Head of Ghana’s premier cancer centre, she promotes equity in cancer outcomes. She pioneered specialist oncology nurse training and redefined patient-centred care.

Under her leadership, over 70 oncology and breast care nurses have been trained nationwide. Naomi collaborates with global institutions like Canada’s Cross Cancer Institute to enhance oncology education for Ghanaian nurses.

She helped develop Ghana’s postgraduate oncology nursing curriculum. Naomi has mentored more than 48 oncology nurses across Africa, fostering a new generation of nurse leaders.

Her influence extends to organizations like AORTIC and ISNCC. She also serves on ASCO’s Global Faculty, co-leading international research initiatives that include African perspectives in global strategies.

Naomi's research on breast cancer risk among African women has improved early detection strategies. Her work on clinical trial protocols enhances patient participation in international studies.

Her dedication has earned her national honors, including the Ghana Ministry of Health Excellence Award and the Dr. Dorcia Kisseh International Award.

Now, Naomi competes for a $250,000 grand prize from the Aster Guardians Global Nursing Award. She plans to use these funds to expand cancer education and mentorship across Africa.
