Ghana Embassy in Washington, D.C. to Reopen
Ghana’s Embassy in Washington, D.C. will reopen on May 29, 2025.
The embassy was temporarily closed due to a financial scandal.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the reopening in a statement.
They assured the public that measures are in place to address issues.
“We regret any inconvenience caused by our necessary interventions,” the statement said.
The embassy closed after allegations of misconduct involving some staff members.
In response, the government took steps to restore order and credibility.
Home-based staff were recalled, and local staff were suspended.
A team of experienced diplomats is now managing the embassy.
This team aims to overhaul systems and restore integrity.
An expert group has been sent to help with administrative functions.
An IT team will also reconfigure the embassy’s website and payment systems.
Their goal is to remove all unofficial digital links associated with the mission.
The Ministry has referred the matter to both the Auditor-General and Attorney-General for further investigation.
They seek appropriate sanctions against those involved in misconduct.
“The unfortunate circumstances leading to closure have been reported for action,” they stated.
The Ministry emphasized its commitment to transparency and accountability.
Steps are being taken to protect Ghana’s diplomatic reputation globally.
