The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, is committed to protecting Ghana’s diplomatic assets in Benin. He assured that no government-owned property will be sold.
Instead, there are plans to renovate and restore facilities for the diplomatic mission.
During his visit to Benin, he inspected several properties acquired by Ghana in 1999. One facility was abandoned in 2019 due to fire damage affecting its electricity meter. Ghana owns six properties in Benin, but only one is currently unused.
The Minister expressed concerns about structural issues in some newer buildings. He noted the financial strain on mission staff who must rent private accommodations.
He emphasized the urgent need for renovations and reconstruction to keep the properties functional. “No property will be sold under my watch,” he declared, reaffirming his commitment to safeguarding national assets.
