Ghana’s human trafficking cases rise

Ghana is witnessing a troubling resurgence in human trafficking cases, with the 2024 Ibrahim Index of African Governance showing a sharp decline in the country's anti-trafficking measures from 2018 to 2023.

Once a leader in combating trafficking, Ghana saw its rating drop from a steady 68.8 out of 100 in 2014-2018 to a low of 31.3 in 2022-2023.

In response, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has provided advanced training to 60 law enforcement agencies to better address adult and child trafficking, child labor, and exploitation.

The resurgence highlights the need for strengthened protections for vulnerable populations.
