Professor Henry Kwasi Prempeh, Chairman of the Constitutional Review Committee, has criticized Ghana’s outdated legal framework, stating that it is inadequate for effectively addressing contemporary corruption.
Speaking as a reviewer at the 5th Constitution Day Public Lecture, he emphasized the urgent need for legal reforms to enhance anti-corruption efforts.
While acknowledging that the current constitution provides some tools for combating corruption, Prof. Prempeh argued that Ghana's legal institutions and doctrines remain outdated.
He stressed that corruption continues to evolve, yet the country still relies on laws dating back to 1962, making enforcement ineffective.
He called for legal innovation to ensure that Ghana's legal framework keeps pace with the changing nature of corruption, similar to how developed nations frequently update their laws to address emerging challenges.
