Ghana’s mineral output set for strong growth in 2025 – Chamber of Mines

The Ghana Chamber of Mines predicts a strong rise in mineral production for 2025. Gold output is expected to be between 4.4 million and 5.1 million ounces. This growth will come from key producers like Gold Fields, Zijin Mining, and Perseus Mining.

New contributions will also come from Newmont’s Ahafo North Mine and Shandong Gold’s Namdini Mine. Both mines are set to begin production next year.

Other minerals are likely to see increases as well. Manganese output may reach 8 million tonnes. Bauxite production could hit 2 million tonnes, while diamond production might rise to 400,000 carats.

However, small-scale gold mining growth remains uncertain. Production in this sector is expected to range from 1.5 million to 2.0 million ounces. This depends on policy changes and global gold prices.

A significant development for the sector in 2025 is the government's transformation of the PMMC into the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod). The new agency will have expanded powers to set local gold prices. Pricing reforms could greatly impact the price-sensitive small-scale mining industry.

The Chamber noted that while the outlook is positive, success relies on stable policies and favorable global market conditions.
