Ghana secures major investment commitments from UAE following Foreign Minister’s visit

Ghana will soon receive significant investment from the United Arab Emirates (UAE). This follows a visit by Foreign Affairs Minister Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa to the UAE.

During his two-day visit, Mr. Ablakwa met with senior UAE officials and industry leaders. He secured commitments from Emirati companies to invest in Ghana’s priority sectors.

Mr. Ablakwa was welcomed by Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Affairs Minister. He also held discussions with other key officials, including Sheikh Shakhboot bin Nahyan Al Nahyan and Lana Nusseibeh.

The investment drive supports President John Mahama’s economic recovery agenda, “Ghana is Open for Business Again.” The UAE private sector showed strong interest in Ghana’s opportunities in various fields.

These fields include renewable energy, artificial intelligence, education, healthcare, aviation, and defense. Several UAE companies plan to visit Ghana soon to start projects.

Their interest in renewable energy aligns with Ghana's goal of diversifying its energy mix for better reliability. Mr. Ablakwa mentioned that discussions also covered developing Ghana’s aviation sector.

In a positive development for youth employment, agreements were reached to facilitate large-scale labor export to the UAE. This initiative aims to create thousands of jobs for skilled Ghanaians across different fields.

However, implementation depends on finalizing the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between both countries.

Mr. Ablakwa called the visit a “milestone in Ghana’s international economic diplomacy.” He thanked the UAE government and Ghana’s diplomatic team for their support in securing these investment pledges.

Next steps will focus on speeding up investment frameworks and ensuring smooth entry for UAE businesses into Ghana's market.
