Ghana takes step towards aluminium-led industrialisation with new GIADEC board

The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, has inaugurated the Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) Governing Board. This marks a significant step in Ghana's industrialisation efforts.

The Board will oversee the development of Ghana's bauxite and aluminium resources. Their focus will be on responsible and sustainable development.

At the event, the Minister highlighted the importance of Ghana’s aluminium industry. He noted it can drive economic growth, create jobs, and promote sustainability.

He called the aluminium value chain essential for achieving Ghana’s industrialisation goals. This is especially relevant during the global green transition.

“The aluminium industry has great potential to transform our economy,” he said. However, this transformation must be responsible, sustainable, and strategic.

Hon. Armah-Kofi Buah outlined urgent priorities for the Board. He wants to shift from raw bauxite exports to domestic refining and production.

He also urged the Board to stop unsustainable bauxite haulage and enhance value addition.

Deputy Minister Hon. Yussif Sulemana encouraged the Board to maintain high integrity standards. He emphasized working collaboratively under the Ministry's oversight.

Chairman of the Board, Mr. Kweku Sarfo-Buabeng, pledged their commitment to deliver results. He aims to position GIADEC as central to Ghana's industrial transformation.

The 11-member Board includes professionals from academia, industry, and public service. They are ready to drive Ghana's aluminium-led industrialisation agenda forward.
