Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced a major change. Visa applications to Ghana will now be processed in five working days. This is a significant reduction from the previous four to six weeks.
This new policy takes effect immediately. It is part of the Mahama administration's effort to attract investors and tourists.
On January 7th, President Mahama stated that Ghana is open for business. Mr. Ablakwa emphasized this commitment in a Facebook post on May 21.
The Ministry has allocated resources to support this new directive at diplomatic missions. However, Ablakwa clarified that faster processing does not guarantee visa approval.
He stated, “A decision—approval or denial—will be made within five days.” He stressed that this does not mean automatic visa approval.
This change aims to boost Ghana’s appeal in global tourism and investment markets. It seeks to reduce bureaucratic barriers that have deterred visitors and business partners.
“Ghana is truly open for business,” Mr. Okudzeto Ablakwa said. He invited everyone to “come enjoy the Black Star experience.”
