President John Mahama announced that Ghana will offer 1,000 scholarships. These scholarships are for students from ECOWAS member states. They can study at Ghanaian universities.
He made this announcement during the launch of the ECOWAS at 50 celebrations. This event took place at the Accra International Conference Centre.
Mahama stated that this initiative promotes regional integration and development. It focuses on education and youth empowerment.
"To mark this moment, Ghana is offering 1,000 scholarships," he said. This is for tertiary students across the sub-region to study in our universities.
He emphasized that this gesture shows Ghana’s commitment to unity and cooperation. It also supports capacity building within ECOWAS as it celebrates its golden jubilee.
"This is not just a gesture; it is an act of solidarity," he added. He believes it builds a future where young people see each other as partners.
The launch attracted leaders and dignitaries from West Africa. They gathered in Accra to reflect on ECOWAS's achievements. They also aimed to chart a new path for peace, security, and prosperity.
The official logo for the anniversary was unveiled during the event.
