President John Dramani Mahama announced the Ghana Labour Export Programme. This initiative aims to reduce unemployment. It will help young Ghanaians find work abroad with fixed-term contracts.
The program is part of a larger government strategy. It focuses on creating sustainable jobs through international partnerships.
On Saturday, May 31, President Mahama spoke in the Ahafo Region. He mentioned that the government is negotiating with countries facing labor shortages. The goal is to place skilled Ghanaians in temporary jobs overseas.
“We will soon launch the Ghana Labour Export Programme,” he said. Many countries need workers, and negotiations are ongoing for fixed-term contracts.
The program will cover various sectors. These include agriculture, construction, healthcare, hospitality, and logistics.
Workers who can benefit include electricians, welders, and mechanics. Nurses, chefs, caterers, drivers, warehouse supervisors, and machine operators are also included.
The President revealed that a contract has been signed with one country. This agreement allows for the deployment of 2,000 temporary workers.
He assured citizens that recruitment will be fair and transparent. There will be equal representation from all 16 regions of Ghana.
“Young qualified people will be selected fairly from all regions,” he affirmed. This includes candidates from the Ahafo Region as well.
