Ghanaian nurses and teachers to work in Jamaica under new deal

Ghanaian nurses and teachers may soon find new opportunities in the Caribbean. This follows a special partnership between Ghana and Jamaica.

Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa announced this news. He is the Member of Parliament for North Tongu and part of Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Committee. According to him, both nations are working on a cooperative arrangement for Ghanaian professionals in Jamaica.

“Jamaica is ready to receive nurses and teachers from Ghana,” Ablakwa shared on Facebook.

This development came after a meeting between Ablakwa and Senator Kamina Johnson Smith. She is Jamaica’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade. They met during the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) Summit in Brussels.

Ablakwa called the meeting “immensely successful.” Both countries agreed to strengthen their political and economic cooperation across various sectors.

They plan to hold high-level consultations on trade, education, agribusiness, tourism, culture, and sports exchange.

The announcement has excited many in Ghana's education and health sectors. Professionals have long sought international opportunities to share their skills and gain experience.

Beyond personnel exchanges, this partnership shows a commitment to enhance cultural ties. Ghana and Jamaica have deep-rooted connections through history, migration, and struggles for freedom.

This agreement aims to turn these symbolic ties into real socioeconomic benefits. “Ghana ???????? and Jamaica ???????? will expand our historical relations,” Ablakwa affirmed.

Plans include collaborations in trade, tourism, agribusiness, along with teacher and nurse exchanges. This agreement could mark a new chapter in Pan-African partnership focused on mutual growth and shared aspirations.
