Ghanaian students abroad call off planned demo, cite pressure from Embassies

The Coalition of Ghana Scholars Abroad has suspended its planned demonstration. They cited external pressures and interference from some diplomatic missions.

Ghanaian students in Hungary and Morocco are frustrated. Their stipends and book allowances have not been paid for 11 months. This delay affects parts of two academic years. Efforts to engage the Ghana Scholarships Secretariat have not worked.

On June 4, the coalition released a statement. They mentioned "a series of pressures and undue influence" from foreign missions. These missions allegedly linked support to silence on the issue. While they appreciate the assistance, students feel this interference limits their freedom to act.

The coalition did not name the involved diplomatic entities. However, they reaffirmed their commitment to peaceful dialogue. They also thanked the media for their support.

The coalition urged stakeholders to engage openly and respectfully. No new date for protests has been announced yet.
