A group called the Coalition of Ghanaian Scholars Abroad plans a demonstration. This event is set for Wednesday, June 4, 2025. The protest aims to address the government's failure to pay stipends and allowances.
These students are beneficiaries of the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat. They study in various countries but have not received support for 14 months. Their book and health allowances have also gone unpaid for two academic years.
In a joint statement, representatives from Europe, North America, and Asia expressed their concerns. They accused the government of neglecting its duty to support their education. Despite repeated appeals, there has been no response from officials.
The Coalition emphasized that this demonstration will be peaceful. They want to highlight their ongoing struggles and demand accountability from the government.
“This protest is not political,” they stated. “It is a desperate cry for survival.” Many students feel stranded without money for rent or food. They also struggle to access healthcare services while studying abroad. The statement reflects their feelings of being forgotten by Ghana.
