Ghanaian students in Hungary cry for help amid prolonged financial neglect

Ghanaian students studying in Hungary are facing a financial crisis. They have not received stipends for nearly a year. Additionally, they have gone two years without book allowances.

The students say the situation is critical. Many cannot afford basic living expenses like rent and food. This financial strain affects their studies and mental health.

One student expressed, “This crisis is not just about money. It’s about our ability to survive and study.”

The students have repeatedly sought help from the Government of Ghana. However, their requests have gone unanswered. They urge authorities to act quickly to protect their education and livelihoods.

In a collective appeal, they said, “We ask the government to release 11 months of unpaid stipends and overdue book allowances.” They emphasized that this issue impacts their future and Ghana's future.

The students also want the government to create a reliable payment system. They seek emergency financial aid and better communication with officials.

They believe regular engagement could prevent issues from escalating. It would also ensure that students do not suffer in silence.

Officials at the Ghana Scholarship Secretariat acknowledge the problem. They state that steps are being taken with the Hungarian government to resolve it.

However, many affected students hope for swift action before their dreams are derailed completely.
