“Ghanaians, Rise!” — Wontumi calls for resistance against Mahama govt

The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, is known as Chairman Wontumi. He has accused President John Dramani Mahama’s administration of unfair treatment and political persecution.

This accusation follows an attempted raid on his house by officers from the National Investigations Bureau (NIB) and the Ghana Police Service on May 23, 2025. Speaking on Asempa FM, Wontumi urged NPP supporters and Ghanaians to oppose what he calls deliberate suppression.

“Am I not a Ghanaian anymore?” he asked. He expressed frustration over the government's alleged targeting of his businesses and personal assets.

Wontumi rallied party supporters to stand firm: “Ghanaians, rise! Arise, Ghanaians! All NPP supporters should rise.” He believes Mahama's actions are due to their support for him.

He dismissed claims that he holds any privileged political position. “Was I ever a Vice President? Have I ever chaired a board?” he questioned rhetorically. He insists that his persecution is unwarranted.

Wontumi also accused the Mahama-led administration of economic sabotage against him. He claimed the government has crippled his businesses since taking office. “You collapsed my business back in 2013,” he lamented. “Even my bank account has been frozen.”
