Ghanaians in Kumasi organize funeral ceremony for Pope Francis

The passing of Pope Francis has deeply affected the Catholic world. Ghana is feeling this loss as well.

After his death on Easter Monday, Catholics in the Ashanti Region honored him. They wanted to pay tribute to a leader known for humility and compassion.

Just a day before, Pope Francis delivered his final Urbi et Orbi blessing. He offered prayers of hope until the very end.

His burial occurred on Saturday, April 26, 2025. It took place at the Basilica of Saint Mary Major in Rome. Vatican Media later shared an image of his tomb, symbolizing finality for many.

In Kumasi, a wreath-laying ceremony was held at St. Peter’s Cathedral Basilica. The Archbishop of Kumasi led clergy members and parishioners in mourning.

They gathered before a large photograph of Pope Francis. Wreaths were laid, and prayers were offered in his memory.

The event showed both sorrow and gratitude for his papacy. He consistently called for love, justice, and peace throughout his life.
