Ghanaians in U.S. face penalties if they don’t carry legal documents

Ghanaians residing in the United States—whether students, workers, or visitors—are being strongly advised to comply with a new immigration rule now enforced by U.S. authorities.

The directive, stemming from an executive order by President Donald Trump, requires all non-citizens aged 18 and above to register with immigration services and carry proof of their legal status at all times.

This includes visa holders, Green Card residents, and even Canadians staying over 30 days. Parents must also register their children under 14, and re-register them at age 14, including biometric data collection.

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) warns that failure to comply could result in fines, misdemeanor charges, or even jail time.

Legal experts caution that this rule is serious, especially for African nationals. All affected individuals must register online, carry their documentation, and seek legal advice if uncertain.
