Ghanaians requested protest against CJ’s suspension – John Darko

John Darko, the MP for Suame, has raised concerns. He is also the counsel for the Minority. He believes President John Dramani Mahama's suspension of Chief Justice Gertrude Torkornoo threatens judicial independence.

Darko made these comments on May 5. This was after a protest by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and other opposition groups. The protest was against the Chief Justice's suspension.

In an interview on The Point of View with Bernard Avle, Darko spoke about public disapproval. He said many Ghanaians wanted to express their dissatisfaction with the government's actions.

"The people of Ghana actually called for this," he stated. "They came in large numbers to tell the government."

He emphasized that the turnout showed widespread unhappiness with executive actions. "It’s about sub-judication of the judiciary under the executive," he added. "You don’t want that in a democracy."
