Dr. Gideon Boako, the MP for Tano North, has called for an investigation into a fatal shooting. This incident involved a young health worker and unrest in Yamfo, his constituency.
The shooting occurred last Friday during a violent clash between local youth and police. Tragically, Mr. Richard Agyei Antwi lost his life in this altercation.
In a statement on Tuesday, April 8, Dr. Boako expressed deep sorrow over the incident. He described it as “tragic” and noted that it disturbed the peace of the community.
Following the shooting, tensions rose and led to vandalism at the Yamfo Police Station. A military unit was deployed from Sunyani to restore order.
Dr. Boako highlighted that this situation resulted in loss of life and property. It also threatens the harmony that Yamfo has enjoyed for years.
He mentioned that another resident suffered serious injuries after allegedly being shot by a military officer. This individual is currently receiving treatment at Sunyani Teaching Hospital.
The MP urged residents to stay calm and avoid retaliatory actions. He appealed for everyone to refrain from escalating tensions during these distressing times.
Dr. Boako called for justice and accountability regarding the incident. He asked the Municipal Security Council and relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation.
“I urge security agencies to ensure justice is served,” he emphasized. He also extended condolences to the bereaved family and wished for a swift recovery for the injured person.
