Franklin Cudjoe, the President of IMANI Africa, has given advice to suspended Chief Justice Gertrude Araba Esaaba Sackey Torkornoo. He suggested she should stop her legal battle after the Supreme Court dismissed her injunction application.
Justice Torkornoo wanted to stop a five-member presidential committee from investigating her removal. However, on May 28, the Supreme Court rejected her request. This ruling allows the committee to continue its work.
In her application, Justice Torkornoo also sought to prevent certain committee members from participating. These members include Justices Gabriel Scott Pwamang and Samuel Kwame Adibu-Asiedu, former Auditor-General Daniel Yao Domelevo, Major Flora Bazuwaaruah Dalugo, and Professor James Sefah Dziasah.
On May 31, Franklin Cudjoe discussed this issue on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue with Selorm Adonoo. He stated that it was time for Justice Torkornoo to step aside.
Cudjoe expressed his belief that she should give up. He noted that continuing would not lead to success for her. He mentioned that she might want to be remembered for fighting.
Cudjoe criticized Justice Torkornoo’s request to allow her husband and daughter into the proceedings. He felt this showed a lack of understanding about her serious situation.
He said it was sad for her to make such a request. Cudjoe advised that she should have negotiated with the Committee instead. He emphasized that if basic requests are denied, it indicates she is unwelcome.
Justice Torkornoo remains suspended while the inquiry continues under a committee established by President John Dramani Mahama.
