The Catholic Bishop of the Goaso Diocese, Most Reverend Peter Kwaku Atuahene, has serious concerns. He believes the Ahafo Region is being neglected in infrastructure development by past governments.
Bishop Atuahene urges the current administration to act quickly. The region faces growing infrastructure challenges that need immediate attention.
Having lived most of his life in Goaso, he has seen little progress. Key areas like roads, water and sanitation, health, and economic empowerment are lacking.
“The government must show commitment to Ahafo’s development,” he stated. He wants the region to be recognized on the national map.
The bishop described the situation as dire. There is a lack of decent housing for public servants and an under-resourced health system. Water and sanitation facilities are inadequate, and there is a shortage of skilled professionals.
He specifically appealed to Minister for Roads and Highways, Governs Kwame Agbodza. He urged him to prioritize rehabilitating the Goaso–Acherensua–Tepa highway. This road could attract investment opportunities for the region.
“The road infrastructure is in a deplorable state,” he emphasized. It requires urgent attention from authorities.
Most Rev. Atuahene also called on the government to complete projects started by previous administrations. This will protect public investment and ensure ongoing development.
“We feared many projects would be abandoned,” he said. “It’s reassuring that we see some positive signs now.”
