Godfred Dame challenges Chief Justice’s removal process at Supreme Court

Former Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame, has filed a writ at the Supreme Court. He aims to stop the process to remove the Chief Justice from office.

The legal action was initiated by Vincent Ekow Assafuah, an MP for Old Tafo. Godfred Yeboah Dame is representing him as his lawyer. They are challenging the legitimacy of the removal process started by President John Dramani Mahama.

This week, President Mahama submitted three petitions to remove Chief Justice Getrude Torkonoo. He presented these petitions to the Council of State for consultations.

Assafuah announced this move in a Facebook post. He stated that he instructed his lawyers to file a writ at the Supreme Court. The writ seeks to declare the President's consultation processes null and void.

The writ argues that the procedure used violates constitutional provisions. It raises concerns about Executive interference in the Judiciary. This case will test presidential authority in judicial matters. Legal and political stakeholders are closely monitoring developments.
