Godfred Dame Faces Probe Over Misconduct in Ato Forson Trial
The General Legal Council has received a petition against former Attorney-General Godfred Dame. The complaint alleges professional misconduct related to the ambulance case.
Daniel Kwame Ofosu-Appiah filed the complaint. He claims Dame improperly influenced Richard Jakpa, a witness in the case. This contact occurred outside of court hearings.
On May 22, 2025, Joy News reported that Ofosu-Appiah presented an audio recording as evidence. This recording captures a private conversation between Dame and Jakpa.
According to Ofosu-Appiah, the recording shows that Dame attempted to coerce Jakpa. He argues that this behavior violates several rules of professional conduct.
These rules include:
- Rule 1(c): Failure to act with honesty and integrity.
- Rule 8(1): Engaging in deceit or misrepresentation.
- Rule 13(1)(a) & (b): Direct communication with a represented party.
- Rule 54: Attempting to improperly influence a witness.
- Rule 61: Conduct likely to discredit the legal profession.
- Rule 76(2)(a): Compromising justice administration.
- Rule 89(a): General professional misconduct.
The petition urges the General Legal Council to impose appropriate sanctions. Possible sanctions include reprimand, suspension, or removal from the legal roll.
Ofosu-Appiah stated that Dame's actions have undermined public confidence in the legal system.
