GoldBod denies allegations of supporting illegal mining

The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has denied claims of facilitating illegal mining.

These accusations came from Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin. He suggested that GoldBod supports unlawful gold mining operations.

In an interview with Citi News, GoldBod’s Media Relations Officer, Prince Minkah, rejected these claims. He emphasized that the Board aims to promote legal small-scale mining. They also want to limit foreign involvement in the sector.

Minkah stated, “If anyone thinks GoldBod exists to support illegal miners, they are mistaken.” He clarified that this is not part of GoldBod's objectives or functions.

He mentioned that one long-term goal is to stabilize the Ghana cedi. This will be done by increasing gold export revenues.

Minkah concluded by saying they will not be distracted by critics. Their focus remains on achieving their objectives.
