The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has extended the deadline for its new gold trading license. The new date is June 21, 2025. This change was announced on May 22 by Prince Kwame Minkah, Media Relations Officer of GoldBod.
The extension follows requests from stakeholders in the gold trading industry. Under the new directive, current license holders can continue to trade gold until the deadline. These licenses were previously issued by the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) and the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources.
GoldBod stated that this grace period is final and will not be extended. After June 21, 2025, only GoldBod license holders can buy or sell gold. Using old licenses will be prohibited after this date.
Violating this rule will result in penalties under the Ghana Gold Board Act, 2025 (Act 1140). Although there is a one-month extension for trading with old licenses, their export function has been revoked immediately. As of May 22, only GoldBod can export small-scale gold from Ghana.
This change centralizes gold export control under one regulatory body. GoldBod encourages all traders to apply for licenses through its official website: [www.goldbod.gov.gh](http://www.goldbod.gov.gh).
While applications remain open after June 21, no trading will be allowed without a valid GoldBod license after that date. GoldBod urges cooperation from all stakeholders as it implements these reforms for transparency and accountability in the gold sector.
