President John Dramani Mahama announced the Goldbod initiative's success. It has improved Ghana’s gold sector significantly. Between January and April, it generated $2.7 billion in revenue. This revenue comes from exports managed by the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC) and Goldbod. The President expects this figure to rise steadily throughout the year.
He spoke at the Global Mining Summit on June 2. He emphasized the initiative's role in reforming the gold mining industry. “The Goldbod is a key part of my strategy,” he said. It aims to ensure maximum benefits for Ghanaians from gold resources. In its short time, it has improved returns from gold exports.
President Mahama stated that Ghana earned $2.7 billion from gold exports through PMMC and Goldbod. He believes this amount will increase significantly over the year. The Goldbod initiative is part of a broader strategy to combat illegal mining. It also aims to increase transparency in gold trade and maximize revenue.
The President noted that these reforms have boosted earnings overall. They have also improved institutional oversight across the gold mining value chain.
