The CEO of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi, announced new plans. The government will establish the Ghana Gold Village. This initiative aims to make Ghana Africa’s hub for gold jewellery and ornaments.
The facility will be modeled after Dubai's famous Gold Souk. It seeks to boost value addition in Ghana’s gold production. The goal is to position Ghana as a leader in gold craftsmanship and trade.
Mr. Gyamfi spoke at the Mining in Motion Summit in Accra. He said, “GoldBod is open to partnerships to realize President Mahama’s vision.” The village will serve as a hub for gold jewellery and ornaments in Africa.
He also outlined key interventions by GoldBod to benefit from gold wealth. These include tightening regulations, curbing smuggling, and creating a transparent trading system.
Since its establishment, the Ghana Gold Board has achieved significant milestones. For the first time, gold exports from small-scale mining surpassed those from large producers. Mr. Gyamfi called this a “defining moment” for Ghana’s extractive industry.
Despite these successes, he emphasized that the Board will not become complacent. “We will not rest on our laurels,” he stated. They are determined to do more for partners and stakeholders.
He invited global stakeholders to collaborate with Ghana on sustainable mining practices. He extended an invitation to organizations like LBMA and the World Gold Council.
“Let us partner in responsible sourcing and value addition,” he urged. He concluded by saying that together they can achieve great things in mining while protecting the environment and uplifting communities.
