Collins Owusu Amankwah, a former MP, has urged the government to remain neutral in the Bawku conflict. He spoke on Joy News’ The Pulse show about the need for fairness in resolving this long-standing crisis.
Mr. Amankwah emphasized that transparency is crucial. He stated, “We must uncover the hidden truths surrounding this issue.” He warned that any government bias could worsen the conflict and hinder peace efforts.
“I expect the government to stay neutral,” he said. “We are all Ghanaians.”
He also criticized the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He accused them of being reckless and uninformed during their election campaign regarding Bawku.
“The NDC must accept they were irresponsible about Bawku,” he added. He found President John Dramani Mahama's statements unnecessary and unwarranted.
Mr. Amankwah called for political leaders to prioritize the people of Bawku over party interests. “This conflict has gone on for too long,” he said. “There is no room for ego-massaging anymore.”
He expressed strong support for mediation efforts by Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene. He encouraged all factions to cooperate fully with this process.
“I strongly support the Otumfuo’s mediation process,” he concluded. “It needs sincere cooperation from both sides to resolve the Bawku conflict.”
