The Minister for Employment, Jobs, and Labour Relations, Rashid Pelpuo, announced an investigation. This inquiry focuses on the recruitment of about 12,000 individuals into the public sector. The former Akufo-Addo administration made these appointments after the 2024 general elections.
Mr. Pelpuo noted that this mass recruitment happened within one or two weeks after the election loss. This timing raised concerns about the legitimacy and motivation behind these hires.
During an interview on Channel One TV, Mr. Pelpuo shared more details. President John Dramani Mahama has formed a committee to investigate complaints of unfair dismissals among new employees. Mr. Pelpuo is a co-chairman of this committee.
He stated, “We’re working very hard to get them a response.” He emphasized that 12,000 people were employed in various sectors shortly after the election loss. The investigation will reveal whether proper procedures were followed.
The committee will examine the timing and processes of these late-term appointments. They will also look into any political motivations behind them. The findings will help determine if corrective measures are needed.
Mr. Pelpuo reaffirmed the government’s commitment to transparency in public service recruitment. He noted that the committee's recommendations would influence future decisions regarding these contested appointments.
