Gov't allocates GH¢292m for free sanitary pads for girls in schools

The Ghanaian government has allocated GH₵292 million to provide free sanitary pads for girls in schools across the country. This initiative aims to address menstrual hygiene management and ensure that girls remain in school during their menstrual periods. The program is part of a broader effort to promote gender equality and improve educational outcomes for female students.

Education Minister Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum announced the allocation, highlighting its significance in fostering an inclusive learning environment. He emphasized that lack of access to sanitary products often leads to absenteeism among girls, which negatively impacts their education. By supplying these essential items, the government hopes to empower young women and reduce barriers to education.

This initiative aligns with global efforts to enhance menstrual health and hygiene, acknowledging that proper management is crucial for girls' health and well-being. The government’s commitment reflects a progressive step towards ensuring that all students can pursue their education without facing challenges related to menstruation.
