The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, visited the Gold Fields Damang Mine. His visit aimed to ease tensions after the mining lease expired on April 18, 2025.
During his visit, he reassured staff and contractors about job security. He emphasized the government's commitment to maintaining stability at the mine.
“We are here to engage with workers,” he said. “President Mahama is committed to guaranteeing their jobs during this transition.”
He also promised to ensure the safety of operations at the site. Contractors should feel secure that their agreements will remain intact.
Workers and local communities expressed anxiety over potential layoffs. Over 1,000 direct and indirect jobs could be affected by a shutdown.
The Minister confirmed that the company is in talks with the government. Continuous dialogue is essential as decisions are made.
He stressed that the goal is positive change, not disruption. “We want to strengthen communities, not weaken them,” he explained.
