The government is seeking support from Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). This effort aims to address the country's waste management challenges, especially plastic waste.
The initiative includes financial assistance and grants for SMEs. These funds will support recycling and other waste management projects. The goal is to promote a circular economy and create jobs.
Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Mohammed Murtala, announced the funding. Each of the 10 SMEs received about $300,000. He emphasized that the government will closely monitor this initiative.
Murtala stated, "We should all be conscious of how the money is used." He added, "I do not need a dollar or a cedi from you." The funds must be used for their intended purpose.
He assured that he would oversee the monitoring process. This funding represents just the first tranche of support.
