The Minister of Finance has assured the new Board of Trustees of SSNIT. He stated that the government has cleared all arrears owed to the Fund.
During the inauguration in Accra, Dr. Forson reaffirmed the government's commitment to Ghana's pension system. He confirmed that all outstanding obligations to SSNIT have been fully honored.
“I want to assure you that the government is current on all payments due to SSNIT,” he said.
He added, “We are determined to continue honoring these obligations.” This aims to safeguard the pensions of Ghanaian workers.
Kwesi Afreh Biney, Director-General of SSNIT, confirmed these payments. He noted that the government has cleared inherited arrears and met current commitments.
This assurance comes amid increased public scrutiny over pension fund management. There are renewed calls for transparency in SSNIT’s investment decisions.
Dr. Forson’s remarks may boost public confidence in the Fund’s stability. They also show the government’s dedication to protecting workers' retirement benefits.
The newly inaugurated SSNIT Board is chaired by Nana Ansah Sasraku III. It includes representatives from government, organized labor, and employer associations.
The Board's task is to provide strategic oversight and uphold sound governance practices within the Fund.
