Gov’t insists 2025 Hajj fare cut not funded by public money

The government has reaffirmed that no public funds were used to subsidize the 2025 Hajj fare, despite a GHC 13,000 reduction.

Interim Hajj Taskforce Chairman Alhaji Collins Dauda clarified that the fare cut resulted from negotiations with service providers in Saudi Arabia, not state funding.

He emphasized that accommodation and catering costs were adjusted, though airlines maintained fares due to fuel prices.

President Mahama also ruled out government-sponsored Hajj travel, insisting that any such support must come from separate funds.

Meanwhile, investigations are ongoing into a $5 million debt from the 2024 Hajj, with service providers claiming unpaid dues.

Alhaji Dauda assured that findings would be made public once the probe is complete.
