Gov’t must act swiftly on US travel advisory – Minority Caucus demands

The Minority Caucus on the Foreign Affairs Committee of Parliament is concerned. They are alarmed by the U.S. Level 2 Travel Advisory on Ghana. They see it as a serious blow to the country's international reputation. They urge the government to intervene immediately.

In a strong statement, the caucus said this advisory is an indictment of Ghana's reputation. Ghana has been known as one of Africa’s safest and most stable nations.

The U.S. State Department issued the advisory due to rising violent crimes. It also mentioned weak law enforcement and underreported serious offenses like sexual assault. Additionally, it flagged issues like widespread violence, organized crime, and political unrest.

The caucus noted that Ghana has enjoyed good international recognition for security and governance. However, they warned that post-election violence by political activists has gone unpunished. This situation has contributed to Ghana's negative rating.

They emphasized that this decline is not coincidental. It reflects the government's failure to address growing insecurity and law enforcement breakdowns. The caucus criticized a culture of impunity in the country.

Furthermore, they condemned the administration's silence on key issues like drug trafficking and money laundering. They believe these issues have tainted Ghana’s international financial reputation.
