The Ministry of Finance has released GH₵226,019,224 to clear outstanding allowance arrears for 98,145 verified National Service personnel.
The payment follows an extensive audit that exposed a significant discrepancy between the actual number of service personnel and inflated payroll figures.
Earlier records listed 180,030 names for payment in 2024, but the latest verification confirmed only 98,145 as legitimate.
The government has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring only genuine personnel receive allowances and pledged to rectify all payroll errors.
In response to the revelations, President Mahama has ordered a thorough investigation into the ghost names scandal, aiming to hold those responsible accountable.
The probe seeks to prevent future payroll fraud and safeguard public funds.
