The government has issued GH¢25 million to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) amidst fears of delays in releasing the 2024 WASSCE results.

Dr. Clement Apaak, Deputy Ranking Member on Parliament’s Education Committee, acknowledged the payment as a positive step but emphasized that it barely scratches the surface of WAEC’s GH¢118 million debt.

WAEC’s Public Affairs Head, John Kapi, revealed the funds would repair scanners critical for marking objective papers.

Dr. Apaak described the payment as “a drop in the ocean,” stressing that WAEC’s financial struggles remain unresolved, with potential repercussions for education outcomes.

Stakeholders are urging the government to act promptly to avoid further disruptions.
