The Mahama administration has successfully retrieved five bulletproof vehicles from former Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Thomas Oppong-Peprah and other retired military officers, following revelations of unauthorized procurement.
The armoured Toyota Land Cruiser 300 GXR vehicles, purchased from Dubai, were seized after it was discovered that they were acquired without prior approval from the previous government.
These vehicles, according to theheraldghana.com, now parked at the Ghana Armed Forces’ Defence Procurement Wing, were allegedly resprayed from army green to black, including a 2023 Lexus LX 600.
Despite claims of approval from the Armed Forces Council, investigations revealed severe irregularities and overpricing, with each vehicle purchased for US$285,000.
The scandal has prompted calls for further investigations and accountability.
