Gov’t sets up committee to oversee transition to single-track SHS system

The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has formed an 11-member committee. This committee will manage the shift from a double-track system to a single-track system in Senior High Schools (SHS) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHSTS).

This initiative aims to streamline the academic calendar. It also seeks to improve the quality of secondary education.

Prof. Peter Grant from the University of Cape Coast (UCC) will chair the committee. Their tasks include reviewing the 2024/2025 academic calendar. They will align the WASSCE schedule with other West African countries and create a plan to phase out the double-track system.

The inauguration ceremony featured important figures in education. Attendees included Prof. Ernest Kofi Davis, Director-General of the Ghana Education Service (GES). Other senior officials from the Ministry of Education (MoE) and GES were also present.

Additional attendees included Prof. Godwin Awabil from UCC and Prof. Samuel A. Atintono from PRINCOF. Prof. Smile Gavua Dzisi, Deputy Director-General at GES, was also there.

The committee features Dr. Munawaru Issahaque, Deputy Director-General at GES for Quality and Access. It also includes representatives from WAEC, CODE, CHASS, COHBS, and GES's Schools & Instructions Division.
