The Chief Executive Officer of the Forestry Commission is Dr. Hugh Brown.
The government is working to stop illegal mining in Ghana. They have successfully reclaimed the Asenayo Forest Reserve. This achievement comes from coordinated efforts by the Forestry Commission and security agencies.
This marks the eighth out of nine high-priority reserves restored from illegal miners. It reinforces the government's zero-tolerance stance on galamsey.
Dr. Hugh Brown announced this during a recent inter-agency retreat. He praised the effectiveness of collaboration among agencies.
The Asenayo reserve was previously damaged by mining operations. It is now fully secured and under state protection.
This development shows the government's commitment to protecting forest resources. Earlier successes were confirmed by Mr. Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, Minister for Lands and Natural Resources. Seven other reserves were recovered through joint task force operations.
The reclamation strategy includes intelligence-led enforcement and community engagement. It also focuses on ecological restoration, serving as a model for sustainable governance.
Only one reserve remains under illegal occupation now. The Ministry is committed to total recovery of all reserves. They state, “No forest land will be ceded to criminals.” They are mobilizing resources to reclaim the final target and protect these ecosystems.
