The Ministry of Roads and Highways has announced plans to reintroduce road and bridge tolls using a technologically advanced system aimed at boosting efficiency, transparency, and accountability.
In a statement on February 6, 2025, the Ministry assured that the procurement process would be open and fair.
Roads Minister Kwame Governs Agbodza confirmed the move, emphasizing that tolls would return without physical obstructions, utilizing a digital platform for seamless collection.
He criticized the previous government’s suspension of tolls as unlawful and highlighted increased road fund revenues, now exceeding GH¢2 billion annually.
Agbodza also addressed concerns about former toll workers, stating efforts would be made to re-engage them.
With nearly half of Ghana’s 100,000-km road network in poor condition, the government sees tolls as vital for maintenance and urgent repairs.
