The government intends to terminate the contract for the Pwalugu Multipurpose Dam project due to delays, Minister for Food and Agriculture Eric Opoku has announced.
Speaking to journalists on January 29, after a three-day tour of ministry agencies, he emphasized the need for a new approach.
The $993 million contract, awarded in 2019, aimed to control flooding from Bagre Dam and enhance irrigation with a hydro-solar hybrid system.
However, despite $12 million spent on site development, actual construction has yet to begin.
Opoku assured that due diligence would be conducted before cancellation to avoid potential judgment debt.
He stated that the project remains a priority, adding, “We will ensure its execution, and I can assure you it will be John Mahama’s signature project in the North.”
