The Government of Ghana is committed to providing safe water for all.
At the 15th annual Beyond the Pipe Forum in Accra, Deputy Minister Tetteh-Agbotui spoke about this commitment. She emphasized the need for teamwork to address Ghana’s water challenges.
Tetteh-Agbotui urged private sector players to partner with the government. “Expanding water access requires strong partnerships,” she said. She highlighted organizations like Safe Water Network as key collaborators.
As the MP for Awutu Senya West, she praised Safe Water Network. This organization has provided safe water services to over 500,000 people in 158 communities. Their initiatives align with the government's broader water strategy.
Mr. Charles Nimako, Country Director of Safe Water Network, shared progress updates. He noted that they have helped over two million Ghanaians access safe and affordable water. However, he stressed that this achievement is just a starting point.
Nimako called for continued innovation and knowledge sharing to improve accessibility. “Practice should inform policy,” he stated about the forum's importance in shaping service delivery.
This year's forum was themed “Innovating for Sustainable Safe Water Access.” It discussed trends like digital transformation and financial sustainability in water services.
A highlight was the launch of the Safe Water Network Virtual Reality Experience. This immersive tool showcased the impact of water scarcity and sustainable solutions.
The initiative is part of the Waves of Change campaign to raise awareness and mobilize resources for better water access.
The forum featured distinguished speakers such as Chris Williams, Dr. Audrey Smock Amoah, Ekow Archer, and Prof. Lydia Mosi from the University of Ghana.
