The government has allocated GH¢22 million for six forts and castles.
These funds will be used for rehabilitation across the country.
The work will include repairing cracks, reroofing, and creating museums.
This project aims to tell the African story through tourism.
Mr. Kwesi Essel Blankson leads the Ghana Museums and Monument Board. He visited Fort Orange in Sekondi and met Mayor Fredrick Faustinus Faidoo.
He stated, “We hope to complete rehabilitation works on Fort Orange within a year.”
The project will preserve history and promote domestic tourism.
“This focuses on protecting structures significant to the gold and slave trades,” he added.
Fort Orange is one of six selected sites from 28 across Ghana.
These sites are located in various regions, including Volta, Greater Accra, Central, and Western Regions.
The contractor and consultant are already on site to start work.
Mr. Blankson urged residents to keep the beachfront clean for tourists.
He said, “If the city is not clean, it will be hard to attract tourists.”
Mayor Faidoo assured support from the assembly for this project.
